7th edition of Indian premier league is also known as IPL 7, Indian Premier League 2014 or Pepsi IPL 2014. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions in this year’s Indian premier league season Mumbai beat Chennai Super Kings in 2013 IPL final to claim the trophy. Competition will be held from 16th April to 1stJune.
At last it is decided that Indian premier league 2014 tournament will be played in two phases. Starting matches of tournament will be played in United Arab Emirates whereas second phase will be organised in India.
Player Auction
IPL 2014 players auction was scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 February at Bangalore. This was the first occasion when players were purchased and sold in Indian rupees rather than dollars. It’s player wish in which currency he wants the payment. Before beginning of the auction team owners and franchises were allowed to retain maximum 5 players for IPL 7 season. A maximum amount of 60 crore rupees a team can spend to buy all team members.
Three franchises who retained five players before auction whereas Delhi Daredevils didn’t retain any player for IPL 7. There was right to match card which help teams to get back player for the same amount for which he was sold in auction. Many franchises use this card pretty well and Delhi Daredevils got back Kevin Pietersen by using right to match card.
Yuvraj Singh was the centre of auction in this auction and he was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 14 crore rupees. Second biggest purchased of 2014 IPL auction was Dinesh Karthik who was bought to Delhi Daredevils for 12.5 crore INR. Most expensive overseas player of auction was Kevin Pietersen and he was purchased by DD for 9 crore.
Hosting nations and venues
Due to general elections in India Indian premier league season 7 is divided into two phases to be played. First phase of the tournament will be hosted in United Arab Emirates (UAE) from April 16 to 30 at three different venues. IPL 7 UAE matches will be played in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. Tournament’s 20 matches will be played in UAE.
Second phase of the tournament is scheduled to take place in India from 2nd of May to June 1st. Remaining 40 matches including 4 play-offs will be played in India at 10 different venues. Mumbai, Ranchi, Mohali, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, Cuttack, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore are the hosting venues for phase 2 of IPL 2014 edition.

Teams
There are eight teams in 2014 IPL tournament as Pune Warriors India had withdrew from the league after 2013 Indian premier league season. CSK, MI, RCB, KKR didn’t change their captains from last ipl edition whereas Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrise Hyderabad has appointed new captains for IPL-7.
