There are 8 teams in the tournament, one less than from last IPL season. Pune Warriors India withdrew from IPL-7 before auction began. 2014 Player auction was held in Bangalore on 12th and 13th of February. There was lots of confusion regarding hosting nation for championship as IPL 2-14 dates were clashing with general elections date.
At last it is decided that Indian premier league 2014 tournament will be played in two phases. Starting matches of tournament will be played in United Arab Emirates whereas second phase will be organised in India.

Player Auction

IPL 2014 players auction was scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 February at Bangalore. This was the first occasion when players were purchased and sold in Indian rupees rather than dollars. It’s player wish in which currency he wants the payment. Before beginning of the auction team owners and franchises were allowed to retain maximum 5 players for IPL 7 season. A maximum amount of 60 crore rupees a team can spend to buy all team members.
Three franchises who retained five players before auction whereas Delhi Daredevils didn’t retain any player for IPL 7. There was right to match card which help teams to get back player for the same amount for which he was sold in auction. Many franchises use this card pretty well and Delhi Daredevils got back Kevin Pietersen by using right to match card.
Yuvraj Singh was the centre of auction in this auction and he was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 14 crore rupees. Second biggest purchased of 2014 IPL auction was Dinesh Karthik who was bought to Delhi Daredevils for 12.5 crore INR. Most expensive overseas player of auction was Kevin Pietersen and he was purchased by DD for 9 crore.
